Speaking of
Crops...
It's midsummer,
and the corn is as high as an elephant's eye across America's farmland.
Did you know you can watch it grow at http://www.iowafarmer.com/corncam/corn.html.
Here's a recipe for a quick, delicious chowder you can make with leftover
corn and luscious cherry tomatoes:
CORN AND TOMATO CHOWDER
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 tablespoon butter, 1 small onion (finely chopped),
2 large red potatoes (diced), Salt to taste, 3 cups vegetable broth, 3
cups fresh corn kernels, 12 cherry tomatoes, quartered, 1/4 cup minced
cilantro leaves, 1 cup half-and-half, Freshly ground pepper to taste
Instructions:
Heat the oil and butter in a large saucepan. Add the onion and sauté
until soft. Simmer potatoes in salted water to cover until tender but
not mushy. Drain, then transfer to the saucepan.
Add the broth, corn, tomatoes, and cilantro. Bring to a boil, reduce heat,
cover, and simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in the half-and-half and heat through.
Season with salt and pepper.
Serves 4 or 5.
Try garnishing with a little crumbled cooked bacon for a smoky flavor!
And in the spirit of the season, PLEASE send us your favorite corny joke!
If we feature it, we'll send you a pogo.com T-shirt. Send your joke to
newsletter@pogo.com just
be sure to put the word CORN in the subject of your email.

For Winner Carol Racette,
$1267 in pogo Winnings Is Money Well Spent
Living with her husband Gene and six Boston Terriers, California retiree
and GO Games by pogo.com winner Carol Racette knew just what to do with
her $1267 in prize money.
"We used the prize money to catch up on some bills and stock the
freezer with meat," says Carol. "It was such a thrill to hit
the jackpot. And you can believe we're still trying hard to hit it again!"
Carol and Gene have five living children, nine grandchildren, and four
great grandchildren. They breed Boston Terriers "because we love
them so much," she says. "They are such an ideal dog for anyone.
We breed them so common people can afford them, not for show."
And they also find plenty of time to play games, especially Keno, at GO
Games by pogo.com. They wanted to be sure to send along a "Hello
to all our friends in the Keno chat rooms."

TODD
TALKSGO
Games by pogo.com community update
I'm back this month to fill everybody in on a very useful change made
to our popular Find a Friend feature. As I'm sure you all know, the Find
a Friend feature lets you find your gaming pals on-line and jump right
into the room with them. What you may not know is that in July we made
some improvements, based on feedback from our players!
First and most important, we made the Friend's List permanent. It is now
impossible to accidentally lose or delete your Friend's List. Second,
you can access your Friend's List from any computer now. All you need
to do is sign-in with your account and you'll see your Friend's List.
This means you can always find your pals, whether you're playing from
home, work, school, or somewhere in between! Try it yourself by
clicking here.
Sincerely,

Todd Heringer
